First Baptist Church / Eldon, MO

August 14,2011

Nancy, Kerry, and I rode together to Eldon for the morning service. I was not scheduled to sing until the evening. Nancy played piano during the pre-service (as people arrived) and we enjoyed a good message by Pastor David White. At the end of the service he announced that I would be doing a concert that evening. I was also in the bulletin and was amused that they spelled my name wrong. (Ken Munns) Kerry and Nancy treated me to a great lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Lake of the Ozarks. For the first time I had some “grouper fingers” some delicious mild fish sticks. We spent the rest of the afternoon resting up for the evening event. Nancy arranged for me to meet the sound man at the church around 5PM, so when it came time, Brad met us there. Kerry and I set up the sound equipment as Brad cleared a spot on the platform for us. People began to wander in and most of them were elderly. I began to shift the program in my mind to accommodate the age group. Before I did this program, I had some private time with the Lord, asking Him to help me set aside my own pride and ego and to do whatever the Holy Spirit prompts me to do. Consequently, the service went great and I felt at peace afterward. Those who know me know that I’m often overly concerned with crowd acceptance and very critical of my “performance.” But this night that wasn’t a problem. People were touched and even the older ones came up to say thanks. I really didn’t worry about “performance” but accepted that I did the best I could do to represent my Lord and felt peace. It was a night of growth for me.
