Jefferson City Correctional / Jefferson City, MO

August 13, 2011

Some bikers were to meet Nancy and I and join us in this day’s venture to Jefferson City Correctional. We met them at the facility around 11:30 AM. There was Jason, Marvin, and Gage. We had prayer before going in to meet the chaplain. After we were cleared through security, he escorted us to the chapel for religious services. The men had set up the stage for a band and it was impressive. When they saw it was only me, they cleared most everything off except what I would need. I made sure to compliment his preparation and thanked him for having it all ready. I was given two hours to perform but only took a little over an hour to complete my program. I wanted to give time to the bikers (who had rode from Joplin to help out) some time to huddle up with the men. 61 had signed up to come and they all responded well to the songs and stories. Most of those who attended had already been saved, so the prayers afterward were for certain individual needs. I was approached by several inmates who expressed to me how they were touched by my testimony. Others just wanted to talk, and I believe that you can minister to these guys by just listening to them share. I don’t think they get too much attention and God’s love shows itself in many ways. The chaplain seemed a little disappointed that I didn’t take the full two hours to sing, but understood what I was trying to accomplish. I was pleased to hear that Jason, Marvin, and Gage thought I had given the best program they had seen since their involvement with prison ministry. After we said a prayer with them, they headed back to Joplin and we drove back to Osage Beach.
